Fostering In Bury St Edmunds

Bury St Edmunds is a handsome market town in west Suffolk, known for its abbey ruins and Georgian streets, but like anywhere it has children who can’t live safely at home and need a steady place to stay.

When a foster home can be found in the town, a child gets to stay at the same school and hold on to the familiar parts of their week, whether that’s the market, the Abbey Gardens or a club with their friends.

West Suffolk is fairly rural, and there aren’t always enough local foster carers, so children are sometimes placed well outside the area. Local carers change that. At Fostering Hearts we recruit and support carers across Bury St Edmunds and the wider Suffolk area, and we stay beside you once a child moves in.

Why Foster With Us?

Fostering Hearts is an independent, family-run agency that has stayed deliberately small. It means the people supporting you actually know you, your household and the child in your care.

With only around six families to each supervising social worker, the support you get is close and consistent. There’s someone on the phone at any hour, and your training starts before your first placement and continues well beyond it.

We also provide competitive fostering fees — £479.50 per week for children aged 0–10 and £507.50 per week for young people aged 11+ — helping to provide financial stability while you focus on caring for a child.

Foster with us in Bury St Edmunds and you’re joining something local and personal, with people who show up when it matters.

“We are dedicated to recruiting 27 new fostering families across Suffolk, including Bury St Edmunds, over the next 36 months, we want to make a real difference locally”
Emma Rawlinson, Registered Manager

Benefits of being a Fostering Hearts Carer?

All of our foster carers receive a weekly fostering fee of £479.50 for children aged 0–10 and £507.50 per week for young people aged 11+. This reflects the commitment and responsibility involved in providing a safe, stable and nurturing home.

Alongside competitive fees, we offer consistent and reliable support. Our carers have access to 24/7 support from our agency, ensuring guidance and reassurance are always available when needed. You will also receive regular supervision visits from your supervising social worker, who supports around six families, which keeps support consistent and personal, wherever you are in west Suffolk.

our job is find the spark in every child

At Fostering Hearts, we are committed to helping every child discover their strengths and build confidence in their future. Our foster carers are supported with tailored guidance, training and practical resources so they can create stable, nurturing homes where young people feel safe enough to explore their interests and grow in self-belief.

From supporting educational progress and encouraging hobbies to planning enriching outings and having meaningful everyday conversations, our carers provide consistent opportunities for development. These steady, supportive experiences help children feel valued and understood.

We focus on more than meeting immediate needs. Our approach centres on the whole child — ensuring each young person has the space, encouragement and stability to recognise their talents and move forward towards a brighter, more hopeful future.
